ASEAN countries, especially Spore, Thai, and Malay only interested in the resources of Myanmar. They are getting they easy now. They have no intrest to change the status-quo. Should we sell oil and gas while all Burmese has electricity shortage? Timbers and gems are below world price and only benefit a handful of people? Myanmars are below minumum wages to those countries, estimated over 2 millions Myanmar workers are in those ASEAN countries. Myanmar need to be strong to protect itself.

But in Burma, majority of the people earn less than $1 a day and not enough food to eat. The government controls 95% of the economy and it uses closed door system. If you are from Burma, you know the university students are always the frontier of political movements. So, the government shuts down the schools several times, lowered the education standard (lied the history especially), and move the schools to middle of nowhere. That goes on like a circle and everything gets worse and worse.

You see,the pure democracy system values freedom in the economy- the open market. India does not have 100% open market system. The majority sectors are still nationalized by the government such as energy, utilities, etc. That is a part of the answer to India's wealth and the PM himself admitted that. In U.S., it is true that 80% live off less than 9% of the wealth. You still can drive, eat and enjoy the things you like.

I respect her for her courage and determination against the regime.

I agree. The term democracy, at this point, is a misnomer.

I see what you're saying endofdays. I think REAL democracy, "power of the people" could be truly amazing when it doesn't just consist of having influence in elections. |
