THE PLIGHT OF THE BURMESE PEOPLE
As if the Burmese people hadn't enough to contend with by being brutally ruled by a Junta of military criminals, they now have to contend with one of the worst natural disasters ever to occur in the region. With a bit of luck this will spell the end of the general's rule as it appears that they don't have the resources to deal with the disaster. Hopefully, the world's aid agencies will get in there as quickly as possibe and do what they can to alleviate the suffering on the ground.

"Ridley Scott (the director of Blade Runner) directed Alien. Cameron directed the sequel Aliens."Yep. That's why I changed "Alien" to "Aliens" :)About remakes: you couldn't be more right. As I'm writing this I cannot recall any remake that topped the original. Why do they even bother...

Ridley Scott (the director of Blade Runner) directed Alien. Cameron directed the sequel Aliens. I used to think cool, updated remakes, awesome. But after seen Godzilla(with M. Broderick), P. Jacksons King Kong, and recently a god awful TV remake of The Andromeda Strain(they took out all the science and made it a soap opera), and hearing that the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still is really really stupid and bad, I'm against remakes. I just hope they dont try and remake THEM!

Lucas said that he wanted with Star Wars to make a Flash Gordonlike movie that he loved watching so much as a kid at Saturday matinees.Heres an example of the opening to a Flash Gordon serial, the title music is called Les Preludes by Franz Liszt and ranks right up there with John Williams Star Wars score.Flash Gordon 2 The Freezing Torture 1/3 (1940)Yes the monster is beautiful animation, and the sequence starting at 2:10 is still awe inspiring.I think Disney did the special effects.

Well, somebody clearly borrowed from someone, but it's no great issue to me exactly who did what.I am quite certain Lucas didn't think his own intro up entirely out of thin air (and nothing wrong with that, IMO).The "cartoon" emulations of the monster in this film are fantastic. Particularly in relation to the technology available at the time. They were also, presented in concert with the music, background audio, the script and other special effects, altogether quite frightening too.

I won't disagree with you :)

Well, valois5, I wish that instead of Ron Howard directing the upcoming 'Lensmen' movie created by E.E. 'Doc' Smith, the father of space opera, I would think that James would be interested in this, rather than going through the rehash circuit.

Opps!I meant "Aliens" ofc :)

I don't know what to think really. But I do know that that I'm not too keen about a frame-by-frame remake (and I suspect that the dress and behaviour of Alta in the original is not really up-to-date ^^).It's not too far-fetched to suspect that there was a reason why Cameron was asked to do the remake.I mean, a ship (The Prometheus) lands on an uncharted planet. Suddenly evil monsters begin to kill off the good guys."Alien" anyone ;-)

Aye! Let's hope for the best. With Cameron at the helm we know that it's probably have a not-too-shabby financial backing :)
