THE PLIGHT OF THE BURMESE PEOPLE
As if the Burmese people hadn't enough to contend with by being brutally ruled by a Junta of military criminals, they now have to contend with one of the worst natural disasters ever to occur in the region. With a bit of luck this will spell the end of the general's rule as it appears that they don't have the resources to deal with the disaster. Hopefully, the world's aid agencies will get in there as quickly as possibe and do what they can to alleviate the suffering on the ground.

Pettiford was not only spiteful, he was drunk. I was at the session an also noted that Max Roach was not being very helpful. A little jealousy, perhaps? I remember Monk saying to me, during a break in the session, " Why is this happening to me?"

This is the 13th episode of the Orrin Keepnews interviews, in which he discusses recording some of the top jazz albums of the '50s and '60s. Brilliant Corners, by Thelonius Monk, is definitely a top album. Like, I've got every note memorized, man. A great album. A great interview.
