THE PLIGHT OF THE BURMESE PEOPLE
As if the Burmese people hadn't enough to contend with by being brutally ruled by a Junta of military criminals, they now have to contend with one of the worst natural disasters ever to occur in the region. With a bit of luck this will spell the end of the general's rule as it appears that they don't have the resources to deal with the disaster. Hopefully, the world's aid agencies will get in there as quickly as possibe and do what they can to alleviate the suffering on the ground.

The current Dalai Lama has said that if someone comes into your home and attacks you or your family, strike back. Buddhism doesn't advocate Gandhi-like ultra pacifism. Sometimes it's necessary to go to war, but it should be avoided if possible.

If you want to know how a buddhist handle this situation, make a trip to Perth and meet the chief monk there and ask him to tell you how Thai government handle the communists during the insurgent. There was not even a gun fired!!!

Um, you see, if a Buddhist is TRULY a Buddhist, he won't mind one bit being beaten up on a daily basis by some 'bully'. Buddhists UNDERSTAND that EVERYTHING happening to them has a CAUSE, and it teaches a LESSON.The Buddhist allows the bully to 'bully' him, but only because the Buddhist has LOVE and UNDERSTANDING for the bully:He knows that by allowing the bully the freedom to beat (him), the bully will eventually get bored and stop harassing (everyone).Understood?Love conquers all, lads.

Where'd my post go?! I'll post again. Hope this isn't redundant. WorldHeavyMetal, Being a Buddhist does not mean you cannot defend yourself. I'm talking about lay Buddhists, of course. Monks have higher standards. Even Tibet had an army. As Gere says, Buddhism has taken root in the West. If driven out of Tibet, it will survive here just as it survived in Tibet after being driven out of India. You might want to read up on the history of the Samurai and Zen Buddhism.
