Green was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and he spent time in psychiatric hospitals undergoing electroconvulsive therapy in the mid-1970s. Many sources attest to his lethargic, trancelike state during this period. He actually quit the band in 1970, but he was well on his way to his mental illness at that time.
