Hal McGee plays Moog Etherwave Theremin and Moogerfoogers
Excerpted video footage of Hal McGee performing with the Moog Etherwave Theremin at George's Meet & Produce, 433 South Main Street, Gainesville, Florida, at 10:10 PM, Thursday, May 29, 2008. McGee's improvised performance featured the Etherwave Theremin as processed through the Moog MF-107 FreqBox, MF-102 Ring Modulator, Moog Voyager RME analog synthesizer, and MF-104Z Analog Delay. High quality audio recording is now available at Hal McGee Dot Com. Special thanks to Christopher Miller for filming me in such an awesome way, to Aaron Zarzutzki for the idea to use my keys, Andrew Chadwick for helping to organize the show, the good folks at the Black Earth Collective Gallery, and the other bands who played that night (Triscults, Rape Revenge Fantasy Camp, Mr. Transylvania, Imagine Your Wife In This, Ironing).

Among the most engaging Theremin performances I've witnessed. Maestro McGee's technique is endowed with parts ballet and parts T'ai Chi. His inspired choreography charms ethereal cobras and conjures the spirits of undead shamans. The electronic sounds created here are nothing less than the pure channeling of organic energies. |
