THE PLIGHT OF THE BURMESE PEOPLE
As if the Burmese people hadn't enough to contend with by being brutally ruled by a Junta of military criminals, they now have to contend with one of the worst natural disasters ever to occur in the region. With a bit of luck this will spell the end of the general's rule as it appears that they don't have the resources to deal with the disaster. Hopefully, the world's aid agencies will get in there as quickly as possibe and do what they can to alleviate the suffering on the ground.

She was a pre-med student on her way to becoming a surgeon, but the trauma of being molested as a child and her parents' brutal divorce haunted Allison. She started to inhale computer dust remover, which is potentially fatal with each breath. Her erratic behavior and absence from classes got Allison dropped from the pre-med program. Allison is currently inhaling up to ten cans of dust remover a day. Can interventionist Jeff help Allison and her family?

Abuse of the substances is the symptom, rather than the disease. The disease is the mental state which leads a person to start using crack in the first place. I don't necessarily find disease the appropriate term for it either, but there are people simply prone to drug use for reasons of extreme unhappiness, anxiety, trauma...something is so wrong in their mind that they feel the NEED to alter it. That's really what they mean by disease.

I don't think disease can be classified by how/why a person has it. And what to call it depends on the substance. Regardless of whether it was initially the choice of the user, if a body has a physical dependency on a chemical (without which it suffers adverse side-effects) I consider that body diseased. Ex: Heroin. If a mind is dependent on a state brought on by a chemical, so much so that a person feels they cannot live without it, I consider that a disorder. Ex: This chikkin and her duster.

it's hard for me to call addiction a disease, because you probably weren't born a crack baby. you made a decision to start shooting in your arm. and now you're addicted because of that decision. most people don't get cancer because they decided that they wanted it.

What kind of mother ignores her child's claims to have been molested. What five year old would make that shit up?????

Seriously. Any/all of these things must be cheaper than ten daily spray cans, and they sure as hell last longer than five minutes.

Yes, it does.
