The eight fold path are1) Right view2) Right thought3) Right speech4) Right action5) Right livelihood6) Right effort7) Right mindfulness8) Right concentrationThese are the path laid down by the Buddha that lead to enlightenment that give us the protection and happiness that we are looking for.We should spend our free time reading the teaching of Buddha rather than speculating aimlessly

The five precepts (in thought, speech and action)are 1) Do not kill2) Do not steal3) No sexual misconduct (no sex other than our married partner)4) No lying 5) No drinking of alcoholic drinks That is our true protection

It is out of ignorance that we argue this way. Amulet can only remind us of Lord Buddha and it can give only temporally protection if we do not follow the teaching of the Buddha. The protection that we get is the faith, the strong believe in things that are wholesome and good and do no evil. That is the protection. Our protection is to keep the five precepts and follow the eight fold path

yes u r rite when wearing an amulet be it monk image etc is just to remind u ur own religion n not to do bad things, as for amulets that have miracles... only the wearer will know... after all it still depends on oneself... u can wear hundreds of amulets or be in whatever religion but if ur heart, mind unpure then wads the point? juz my 2cents worth

I wear an amulet too but it was to remind me of Buddha's teachings at all times and restrains me from doing bad things. Some people think my amulet has got special powers and I must say it does not have any special powers e.g. stopping bullets. While I know some amulets do exhibit some explained special powers, I agreed with Ajahn Brahm and Ajahn Chah's view. I think Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Brahm want us to work hard to realise the Dharma, not to be dependent on some higher powers.

i do not agree with archan brahm talking about amulets is superstition... amulets do give some kind of protection and have miracles IF properly blessed by holy monks as Buddhism has many sects and differents monks have different way of doing things like exorcism etc... and the stupid guy who asked someone to shoot at him using a gun to test his US$500,000 is really dumb... juz my 2cents worth

Good talk. I'm glad to hear him talk about the perversion of Buddhism by superstitions. There are a great many unBuddhist practices and it is rare to hear teachers be as direct as this to talk about the silliness of the Buddha medallion types of things. There are many Buddhists such as the monks of Thailand who perpetuate nuBuddhist culture, especially in how they treat Buddhist nuns.

ooo really, nevertheless, you have to understand that the supernatural is really exist in this world. The main question that often raise is should one rely and worship on that power. You could do some research on the native south east Asia countries to check my statement.Or maybe even search in youtube, type "Cap Go Meh Singkawang " . There is not scientific evidence can explain such phenomenon. If let me know if you agree with us after you watch these videos.
