THE PLIGHT OF THE BURMESE PEOPLE
As if the Burmese people hadn't enough to contend with by being brutally ruled by a Junta of military criminals, they now have to contend with one of the worst natural disasters ever to occur in the region. With a bit of luck this will spell the end of the general's rule as it appears that they don't have the resources to deal with the disaster. Hopefully, the world's aid agencies will get in there as quickly as possibe and do what they can to alleviate the suffering on the ground.

Yes, because modern Thai(and Lao) has drawn a lot of words from Pali and Sanskrit. By listening to other Tai languages:Shan, Tai-lue, Tai-dam, Tai-lanna(chiang mai), I have come to conclude that Thai has changed a lot more because those Tai languages sound a lot closer to Lao. Well, of course my conclusion is just a theory. :)

yeah the shan, lao and thai langauges are all quite similar. they belong to the tai language group. but shan is maybe even closer to lao than it is to thai.
