You discovered the Valentines as far back as 1989 and you missed them live ? I did so "only" 3 years later and saw them thrice : the first time for the "Loveless" tour, and twice this year.

I came across MBV in 1989 because Robert Smith of the Cure said it was the greatest album/band ever. 20 years on... he is still right. I am super-jealouse of all you that got to see them live. Now if we could get the Stone Roses to tour?????

Don't know why you got an angry response--people just like to be smartasses. I can't answer for Canada, but in the U.S., I NEVER heard this band on radio, not even on the college stations, or saw them on TV. It's possible they were, but this is the kind of music I was into, so they definitely weren't that big, which is why you probably haven't heard their singles. Amazing, given how awesome they are. I didn't learn about MBV till I moved to freaking Japan a decade AFTER Loveless.
