Here's Mary Black singing a Phil Colclough song 'Song For Ireland', from a programme Concert with Phil Coulter at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin. The Programme was called 'Songs For Ireland. Recorded in 1986. The first song she recorded.Walking all the day, near tall towerswhere falcons build their nestsSilver winged they fly, they know the call of freedom in their breastsSaw Black Head against the skywith twisted rocks that run down to the seaLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets, asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic seaand sang a song for IrelandTalking all the day with true friendswho try to make you stayTelling jokes and news, singing songs to pass the night awayWatched the Galway salmon runlike silver dancing darting in the sunLiving on your western shoresaw summer sunsets, asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic seaand sang a song for IrelandDrinking all the day in old pubswhere fiddlers love to playSomeone touched the bow,he played a reelit seemed so fine and gayStood on Dingle beachand cast in wild foam we found Atlantic bassLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic seaand sang a song for IrelandDreaming in the night I saw a landwhere no man had to fightWaking in your dawnI saw you crying in the morning lightLying where the falcons fly, they twist and turn all in you e'er blue skyLiving on your western shore, saw summer sunsets asked for moreI stood by your Atlantic seaand sang a song for Ireland

Must be a lucky country having such women and singers!

I saw a man get up and sing this unaccompanied in the Irish Centre, Hammersmith; I don't think he was a pro singer but he did a grand job. It was pure and simple and very moving. This vid is very emotive too, it's a great song.

Maybe you have seen some TV-stations that broadcast in this format where the image then looks way too tall on a normal TV ( as it does here on YT ) ? - unless it's relatively new and has compensation for this. You may be able to find (free) video software that can "de-anamorph" this video into a normal 4:3 format - I guess the great, free and very versatile media conversion programme called Super will be able to do it.

Ok, thanks - but please keep any eye out for it - I have only heard Ralph play it on his own, and would love to hear them together.Ah, yes - it's to make it look natural on the wide screen, while still using all the horizontal lines - called "anamorphic 16:9" format.

No i don't have that one with Mary & Ralph singing it, though i would like to hear ir if anybody else has it.that was my fault it was the way i recorded it, i recorded it from a portable tv that has a built-in video player, onto a a dvd player that was is connected to a wide screen tv, and when you upload it to YT the film comes up as the same size as the portable tv screen, and i can't get it to come up as widescreen. i don't do it now. thanks for the comment

Love that song - great version.Would anyone happen to have a clip of Mary Black & Ralph McTell singing it ?I know they did some time ago (80's, I think).Btw. What a weird TV format they have in Ireland - is that the rare 9:16 format ? ;-)
