I can appreciate that, even if I don't quite "get it" where Kate Bush is concerned. For all I know, you don't "get" my own fondness for Karen Carpenter either, so we can simply agree to disagree. I do appreciate your description of their (Kate's and Stevie's) common characteristics, so I would tend to agree there.I also agree the two cannot be compared in any meaningful way, except to say they are both women. Each has her own interpretation of "life," and each is different from the other.

Kate Bush is my other favourite female singer. Her and Stevie draw some similarites - both write idosyncratic lyrics, use heavy symbolism, use a lot of 'dramatics' in their performances and are women. That's about it. You can't compare the two - they're completely different. It's like comparing Tom Petty and Bryan Ferry; you just can't.

Followup to previous:"Only third" But how bad is that, really? Stevie Nicks has a true devotion to her craft, and she is a fine singer, regardless of any comparisons I might make between her and her peers (besides--who am I, anyway?). Audrey Hepburn (Moon River), and Julie Andrews (Sound of Music) were another pair of fine singers who's works might be as easily appreciated.Stevie Nicks bears the stigma of singing only Rock and Roll...and so she will always be viewed in that vein.

Agreed. But since I prefer Karen Carpenter BY FAR over Kate Bush, this would work for me.Not that Stevie isn't a fine singer--she is all of that. It's just that I rate Karen's music--and her songs--a cut above, They are all much more structured, for one thing (and they are all the better for that).IMO: Karen is a clear #1;I rate Lani Hall at #2 (Lani of "Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 fame); And so I could put Stevie Nicks only third, at best. IMO of course--your results might vary.

This is nice, but it's hardly Kate Bush. Still Lindsey Buckingham is a good guitarist.

(at the end) "And then it all comes down to you" She's so beautiful.

There's a better quality of this videos posted by wireddreams so Stevie looks much prettier and magical in that one. :) |
