My hair does that too...it is very hard to curl and when it does the curls only stay for about 15 minutes. Last year I donated my hair and had it spiked in the back and I wore it like that for feises. Now that it's a bit longer I actually straighten it and it looks fine. I think curls are overrated.

but sometimes the wigs are good, especially when a girl has really short hair (you need a LOT of really long hair in order for curls to look right) or when a girl has hair like mine where curls literally fall out in 15 minutes. so i don't think the whole wig thing is that bad.

I TOTALLY AGREE i won my open championship with curls in my hair done by RAGS!! every trip to our feis's we all had rags in not one girl needed a wig! its too americanised now! we all had hand made or second hand dresses, white socks, obv the shoes and rags in our hairs with little tiaras and sash badges sometimes hardshoe buckles. irish dancing should stay IRISH

yeah i irish danced for 10 years and the wig thing only got big here like mabey 7 or 8 years ago. but all the dresses are hand sewn in ireland and shipped over.

actually NO! its not tradition at all to have a wig. I grew up in ireland and was in all sorts of irish dancing contests. and the dresses we wore were all hand stitched and the curls were all done by putting rags in your hair. I never heard of this wig thing till recently here in the U.S. and personally i think it's a shame

Wow i never saw a black girl dance to irish music before...but they all did a good job. But I have one question why is it when someone does the irish dance their hair is always curly is like a tradition of something?
