American arrogance? Phil Phister from Charleston, West Virginia, and the great United States of America was the 2006 World's Strongest Man. He's one of the nicest guy's you'd ever want to meet. The 2008 World's Strongest Man competition was recently held at the state capitol grounds in Charleston, West Virginia. It will be shown on ESPN within the next month or two.

How are bodybuilders in good shape? They have excessive muscle mass from training for hypetrophy and dangerously low bodyfat during competition season. Strongmen have more functional strength and cardio endurance from the type of training they do. Powerlifters obviously have less aerobic/anaerobic capacity since they train for 1 rep maxes. But seriously, bodybuilders are not in good shape, they just have large muscles which may or may not be functional (less functional than strongman/PLer).
