In '68 I had an M16 with no forward assist and the three-prong flash suppressor - it was made by Singer - later got issued one with the forward assist and the ring on the end of the flash supressor - big improvement, but you still couldn't put more than 7 or 8 rounds in the magazine - total piece of crap. Best weapon for close work was the M79 with jungle rounds (21 pieces of 00 buckshot)

the XM16E1 didnt have a forward assist, the M16A1 did have a forward assist and a three prong flash hider, the M16A2 featured the Birdcage flash hider

hey UBIQUEROL the xm16e1 had the foward assist the m16 did not have the foward assist and it was used by the airforce and finaly the m16a1 was adopted in 1967 and featured the foward assist and the "bird cage" flash suppresor |
