The Americas were, in fact, named after Vespucci. The United States entered WWII Dec. 7, 1945, but were actually involved long before that in helping the U.K. in protecting their cargo ships on the Atlantic from German U-Boats. For what it probably isn't worth to you, you should know that North Americans in general really, sincerely, and quite literally aren't concerned with your disapproval of us.

Vespucci didn't discover the Americas before Columbus, but he did apparently explore more of the coastlines. A German cartographer, Martin Waldseemuller, is who named the continents after Amerigo. Technically speaking, the Native Americans were here lonnnng before even the vikings showed up. So you could say that the Asians were here first.

11,000 comments of complete morons arguing. I clicked this to hear stunning singing from this man. I scroll down to read comments from the absolute dregs of humanity. I've lost all respect and faith I've once had for people. I hope the planet shakes us off tomorrow. |
