Jimmy Stewart is telling us what C.S. Lewis did in his book "The Four Loves", not to speak of Narnia; that animals too have an immortal soul and it is a privilege to come close to these members of God's creation. I hope we human animals can do better in giving them the love and respect they deserve. Thanks for posting, great tribute to Jimmy Stewart and the incomparable Johnny Carson.

I love the way this poem draws you in thinking its a comic piece before the real sadnest of losing someone close to you hits you. Fantastic and thanks for sharing

one more thing. i think the one of the great things of this poem is when mr. stewart starts out the audience thinks its going to be a comedy bit. then it slows and they get alittle bored and wondering where this is going. then he he says now he,s dead and a small snicker from the audience , then the emotional impact of mr. stewart hits them. shows the greatness of jimmy stewart.thankyou jimmy for giving the world a great poem!thankyou!
