True, The Eagles have made being full of one's self an art form. But at least they waited to sell a few records first. And single handedly bridging the generation and "geography" gaps? Good lord, Jesus himself would've been proud.Listen, I mean no offense to anyone who's a fan of Moby Grape. But this whole deep-sense-of-purpose thing they had going is kind of silly to me. And calling themselves wonderful before anyone else did besides maybe their girlfriends or mothers is dull.

Self important bores on guitars,eh how about The Eagles? We can all agree they suck, right?
Arkady63 (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
Yes, these men bridge not only the generation gap, but the geography gap? What is a "geography gap?" Do they make it easier to cross geographic gaps? LMFAO!!!Yes, these were men with a deep and sincere mission! Closing geographic gap - like bridging the Grand Canyon - was a thing they were born to do.Ah, the misunderstood prophets....

I am not a Deadhead. But now that I see this vid again - thanks your reply - I can honestly say that I have never seen a more self-absorbed and self-important group of bores play guitars. This stuff is dull and very weak.Just listen to the arrogance in the voice of the presenter who mentions a "song for all ages." LOL!!! If they do say so themselves!

Their first lp is better than anything the Dead ever recorded, take THAT deadheads!

One fantastic, talented, and creative band, with a fraternal comradery, from " The Mystical Era".The energy that exsudes from their first record is ledgendary among liked minded musicians from the times...Jerry's Guitar, Bob's voice and bass playing, Don's drumming, Skip's energy, and Peter's voice and musicality. All together with their collective arrangement , A collective great thing ! Too bad the Management and record company blew it!

The Peter Lewis song drags a bit, but "Hey Grandma" is a total rush! Great to see Skip so alive and pumped! I'm not sure Moby Grape were the epochal band that some people think they were, but when they were good they were very very good. This is a great bit of footage.

...oh yes, the sounds of 'The Grape' bouncing off the walls at the Fillmore & Winterland. Great times :>) Then there was the time at Lake Tahoe; while MG was playing, S Spence broke, came down off stage, layed down on the floor w/ us, & helped us finish up some reefer...lol, then casually went back up & continued playing...cracked us up!

Being from the tail end of the babyboom I remember the name Moby Grape and have been sampling them on this web site.I know that mostly their fans will watch this vid and see this posting but I have to say that this band takes itself much too seriously. The pseudo-intellect hippiness that this weak sound tries to project is cliché and a bore.Sorry if that offends but it now explains why they were used in Beavis and Butthead as a favorite band of the hippy teacher Mr. Van Drissen.

Excellent stuff, the misunderstood genius of Moby Grape. |
