From "Air Lyndhurt": Dark Rise, Velvet Choker........................ ..........Note on the rejected EU Constitution and Lisbon Treaty:The people of France and the Netherlands rejected the proposed EU constitution in the 2005 referendums. After this, other countries cancelled a promised referendum and the EU Constitution was re-written as an "amending treaty" or a "reform treaty" and named "Treaty of Lisbon". On the basis of this deceit, they claimed that no referendums are necessary on the Lisbon Treaty. Ireland was constitutionally required to hold a referendum and on the 12 June 2008 the people of Ireland gave a resounding No to Lisbon. Yet this vote is not being respected and the rule of law is being ignored. The EU leaders agreed at the June 19-20 EU Summit that ratifications must go on. Moreover, no other government is asking the people. The Lisbon Treaty establishes a new "European Union" with joint citizenship - an EU "federal" State that is technically and politically empowered to centralize more power in Brussels. The treaty also stipulates the militarisation of the Union in order to 'police the world' just like the US does today......................... .........To view the Political Groups in the European Parliament go to: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/... A pro-EU Swiss eh? I have always respected Switzerlands passive appreaoch to European Affairs, to see that gone if the Confederation were to join the EU, this would be violated in my eyes. Switzerland would be subject to all the common beurocracy of the rest of Europe. If you asking me, Norway, Lietchenstien, Iceland and Switzerland have a good economic relationship without this common culture/political structure. Massive political sturctures bread eventual chaos. The Euro-Council is for that.

I think economics are just a start. We are europeans, we have a common culture that needs to valorised. In order to do so the process has to be slow though. Ask the people and take one little step at a time towards internal reforms. With the EU as it is, I admit I would also have problems to give up my sovereignty to it: as an example, small States like mine (Switzerland) would currently be under-represented in the europarliament. But they do need to work on these reforms.

Ireland is a a very small in in its own little way a selfish place. Politics here are parochial (not to speak of the people) Many has have often attacked me about their 'lost fishing rights' But what does that mean in the sense of the ever declining species?? Absolutly nothing. Nobody knows for how long any Nation will be able to fish.

I see what you mean. I don't agree but I understand what you mean. I would prefer to see a weaker and more economically-focused Union. That is more concerned with trade and a freer-market than political and social integration. I can see good benefits in the European Union as it stands, however it is not practically possible to exist without further member-states willingness to discard their own sovriegnity. I don't think it will last 5 decades, changed or unchanged.

I never said I don't believe in their verdict. They said no, and the treaty has to be changed. But I take it to mean that the EU has lost its way, its 'soul' as Schultz called it, and needs to change in order to get out of this crisis. I don't think it means that the EU shouldn't try to grow more: in this sense, making people vote and decide more would probably bring it closer to them.

The people have said no though, so you say you believe in refurendums, but you don't believe in adhereing to the verdict of them.....?
