In May 1915 the executive of the IRB appointed formally a 'Military Committee' which consisted of Patrick Pearse, Éamonn Ceannt and Joseph Plunkett to plan the insurrection on which they had decided. He was a member of the Military Council of the Provisional Government and of the Provisional Committee of the Irish Volunteers. He worked as an director of the Irish Theatre and as co-editor of the Irish Review which he launched with his friend Thomas MacDonagh. He also helped Edward Martyn to found the Irish Theatre in Hardwicke Street in 1914.During the importation of an cargo of arms landed at Howth in 1914 for the Irish Volunteers, Plunkett's house in Kimmage, Dublin was used as one of the clearing stations for the dispersal of the arms. He was a signatory of the Proclamation of Independence read from the GPO during the Easter Rising in 1916.He married his sweetheart, the artist Grace Gifford, in Kilmainham Gaol just hours before his execution. When he was executed he was terminally ill, having suffered from tuberculosis. His father subsequently entered politics as a member of Sinn Féin and was elected as a MP and a TD. His brother, Jack, was a member of the IRA for many years throughout the 1920s and the 1940s.

Nedbarney or whatever your name Bless you for this. I recited this song as a poem at our cultural night at my college. The Irish loved it and some had never heard the story. 26+6+1 and that is what the 16 died for. Dear Grace went on to live until 1955. She ws put in jail by Dev during the Civil War. No matter what they say These men along with Collins started the end of the British Empire! In Canada it took us until 1982 to get our constitution!
